Yvonne Gavela-Ramos holds a PhD in Spanish from the Pennsylvania State University, focusing on Spanish cultures, literatures, and films. She previously earned her MA in Spanish-TESOL at West Virginia University.

She was Assistant Professor at the University of Miami during eight years and Visiting Assistant Professor at University of Miami, Mount Holyoke College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She was invited to teach graduate seminars for the Pennsylvania State University and for Instituto Cervantes. She currently holds a Senior Lecturer position in ILCE: Instituto de Lengua y Cultura Españolas - Universidad de Navarra (Spain), where she teaches undergraduate courses and graduate seminars in the Máster Universitario de ELE (MELE: www.unav.edu/mele).

Her main lines of research are on Second Language Teaching and Learning, Film and media cultures, and Collective Memory in Spanish films. She is currently working on Spanish for Specific Purposes (Medical Spanish, Translation- Spanish for the Health Professions, Teaching of literatures, cultures, and film), Creative Writing and Digital Storytelling, Multiliteracies, and Teacher Education.

Her research appears in journals such as Hesperia, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos, Crítica Hispánica, and Studies in Hispanic Cinemas. She published a book monograph titled El espejo de Perseo: Cultura visual en la narrativa y el cine español (Academia del Hispanismo, 2015).
