Students-musicians-singers in Freshman Seminar “Harmonizing Resistance: Music’s Power in the Americas” taught by Professor Iris Hauser from Spanish and Portuguese, learned about Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian cultural practice that entails elements of dance, music and spirituality. Mestre Zumbi and Shani from Capoeira Cultural Center and Groupo Senzala took students on a journey exploring the history and practice of Capoeira and Samba, and taught them some dance movements, songs, and rhythms played during Capoeira.
