SPO senior, Lana Hoffert and Professor Paloma Moscardó presented a poster last week at the 2024 VIII Conference of the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA - V NAMS) Annual Conference, an academic event that brings together Hispanic/Latino (LHS+) health professionals, medical Spanish educators, and leaders. Their poster, titled "Gaps in Functional Health Literacy Among Spanish-Speaking Migrants in Northern Michigan" reflects the initial findings of Lana’s senior thesis research. Lana conducted approximately 70 surveys within their community to assess the functional health literacy levels of recent immigrants in the area. Lana’s poster received high praise and significant recognition for their outstanding work.
