This past spring, SPO lecturers Flor Chiaramonte and Eduardo Negueruela-Azarola were granted the 250th Anniversary Fund for Innovation in Undergraduate Education. Throughout the summer, both lecturers will be undertaking a comprehensive revision of SPA107 “Intermediate/Advanced Spanish,” a course that accommodates approximately 125 students per semester across 10-12 sections.

Offered during both the Fall and Spring terms, SPA107 serves as the terminal course in the Spanish language requirement sequence, following SPA102 “Beginner’s Spanish II” or SPA103 “Intensive Beginner's and Intermediate Spanish.” SPA 107 aims to consolidate and expand the linguistic proficiency established in preceding courses, and to prepare students for advanced 200-level courses with a heightened emphasis on reading and writing skills. SPA 107 pedagogical approach is based on the multiple literacies' framework that prioritizes cultural content and project-based assignments to equip students with the skills and conceptual tools necessary to navigate the complexities of other languages and cultures.
