SPO Lecturer Cesar Romero presented two papers in recent international conferences. The first one was “Andean Monsters: Interviews on the Peruvian Political Crisis,” at the Latin American Studies Association Conference, Lasa 2024.
The second was a Spanish presentation entitled “Desentrañando el negacionismo: historia oral sobre la violencia en el Perú (diciembre 2022-enero 2023)” (Unraveling Negationism: Oral History of Violence in Peru (December 2022-January 2023), at the Memory Studies Association MSA Conference in Lima, Peru.
In these conferences, Romero presented different findings from the oral history project he conducted in Peru, funded by a UCRHSS Tuck Fund, from Princeton University. As part of that project, he interviewed several scholars, artists and activists participating in the current political debate in Peru. Based on those interviews, he analyzed the racism behind the violent response of the Peruvian state against the protests at the end of December 2022 and early January 2023.
