On Friday, April 19, students from SPA-LIN 211 (Varieties of Spanish) visited the Taller Puertorriqueño in Philadelphia. Known as El Corazón Cultural del Barrio, Taller Puertorriqueño is a community-based cultural organization that uses art to promote development within its community and the Latinx Diaspora and build bridges to the Greater Philadelphia region. During the visit, students learned about the history of the Taller, they visited Betsy Casañas' "Call & Response" exhibition, and explored the vibrant linguistic and artistic landscape of the Centro de Oro neighborhood. Students enjoyed an informative walk with the Taller guide, delicious empanadas, and sweet treats from local business.
