At a public talk, at the University of Sarajevo (March 10, 2025), Senior Lecturer Adriana Merino introduced her Empathy Pragmatics (EP) framework, an approach that bridges intercultural pragmatics, cognitive pragmatics, and second language acquisition (SLA). She emphasized how pragmatic empathy—the intentional adaptation of communicative strategies to align with cultural and linguistic expectations—enhances perspective-taking, interactional sensitivity, and language-culture integration in L2 learning. Through scenario-based and structured tasks, Merino demonstrated how the EP framework equips learners with adaptive, contextually appropriate speech strategies, fostering more effective and culturally aware communication in multilingual settings.
