The Department of Spanish and Portuguese (SPO) at Princeton University is proud to announce that Associate Professor Javier Guerrero and alumnus Dr. Thomas Matusiak '19 have received prestigious awards at the 2023 Latin American Studies Association (LASA) Section Awards.

Prof. Javier Guerrero has been honored with the LASA "Archives" Section Award for Best Article or Book Chapter, presented by the Archives, Libraries and Digital Scholarship section. Prof. Guerrero's winning work, titled "El archivo uruguayo de los muertos: Delmira Agustini y el cadáver," appears in his book Escribir después de morir: El archivo y el más allá (Metales pesados, 2023).

Dr. Thomas Matusiak '19, an alumnus of the department's graduate program, has been awarded the Best Article Award, presented by the Film Studies section. Dr. Matusiak's winning article is titled “One More Time: Reenactment in Contemporary Latin American Documentary Cinema” and can be found in the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, vol. 31, no. 1, Mar. 2022, pp. 85–104.

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese congratulates Prof. Guerrero and Dr. Matusiak on their outstanding achievements and is proud to have such accomplished scholars as part of the Princeton community.
