Students of SPA 205 Medical Spanish collaborated with the university group KDSAP last Sunday at a free clinic focused on kidney health screening and education. The clinic took place at the Catholic church St. Paul after the mass in Spanish.

Their language skills played a crucial role in assisting Spanish-speaking patients, helping with patient intake, translation, and health education and making the clinic more accessible and effective.  Some students from SPA 205C, offered in Rowan College and led by former SPO graduate Andy Alfonso, also had a great experience helping at the clinic.

The event was not only beneficial for the participants, but SPA 205 students found it eye-opening to step outside the Princeton bubble and connect with community members. Some shared how impactful it was to speak with individuals lacking insurance, suffering from high blood pressure due to fear caused by our government, or facing barriers that kept them from seeing a doctor in this country. Now, students are able to put faces to the statistics studied in class.
