On February 22, we welcomed Prof. María Florencia Rizzo from the CONICET institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a virtual visit in SPA307 (Advanced Spanish Language and Style), which is taught this semester by Prof. Catalina Méndez Vallejo and Prof. Raquel Mattson-Prieto.

Prof. María Florencia Rizzo visits SPA 304 virtually.

Prof. Rizzo's research focuses on the political and linguistic processes that relate to Spain and Latin America. Specifically, she studies the configuration of identity imaginaries through discourses that are produced by the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) and in conferences organized by the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE).

In her virtual visit, Prof. Rizzo discussed the history of these conferences and their impact on the construction of pan-Hispanic discourses and current language policies.
