Mauricio Acuña’s dissertation titled “Um mestre de capoeira entre gingas e letras” was defended with honors at the University of São Paulo in 2017 and recently received the First Honorable Mention of the Silvio Romero Prize, an annual award established by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil.
The prize dates from 1959 and was created to encourage the production of scientific knowledge on topics of folklore and popular culture.
