Lecturers Anna Alsina Naudi and Raquel Mattson-Prieto gave presentations at the XI Congreso Internacional de la Asociación de Humanidades Hispánicas. The conference took place from June 26-28 at the Universitat Rovira I Virgili in Tarragona. Alsina Naudi's talk, entitled "Recontextualización: géneros y multimodalidad en un proyecto de español con fines específicos" described a project for her legal Spanish course. It underscored the importance of the sociocultural legal context in students’ activities. Mattson-Prieto presented with Dr. Yohana Gil Berrio from Boston College, "El estado de la cuestión: programas de lengua que incorporan el español como lengua de herencia en el ámbito universitario". The two showcased data from a pilot study on the prevalence of Spanish as a Heritage Language courses at U.S. universities, as well as provided examples of activities used in the classroom that are beneficial to heritage speakers.
Additionally, the two SPO lecturers participated in a walking tour organized by the conference committee of the Roman-built city.
