Mauricio Acuña’s dissertation titled “Um mestre de capoeira entre gingas e letras” was defended with honors at the University of São Paulo in 2017 and recently received the First Honorable Mention of the Silvio Romero Prize, an annual award established by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil.

Congratulations to PhD candidate Ingrid Brioso Rieumont, recipient of a 2019 Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship. The fellowship is awarded to individual doctoral students whose dissertation will make an unusually significant contribution to their discipline.

Jorge has successfully defended his dissertation “Poetics of Solidarity: The Emergence of Anarchist Mass Culture (Spain, 1898).”

Jorge plans to move to Spain to work on his book manuscript.

Ten students from Prof. Rafael SM Paniagua’s course on Museums, Archives, and Audiences in Modern Spain (SPA382/HUM384/ART382) visited the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. This visit complemented a class discussion about folk museums and the material heritage of pre-automated technology.

Yasmina has successfully defended her dissertation “El Estrecho de Gibraltar y los Imaginarios del Cannabis: Culturas y Contraculturas Rifeño-Hispano-Magrebies (1859-1995).”

Yasmina will be a Visiting Assistant Professor at Tulane University's Spanish and Portuguese Department.

Students enrolled in Princeton in Spain spent a day exploring Madrid on Wednesday, June 19th. They began the day by meeting Professor Goretti González at the Plaza de Santa Ana where the Teatro Español, the oldest theater in Madrid, is located.
