Beginning in the fall, SPO alum Max Grear ’18 will be pursuing a Ph.D. in Anthropology at Columbia University, specializing in Sociocultural Anthropology. Grear plans to study media and performance in Cuba, with an emphasis on popular music, race, and sexualities. This stems from initial research that he conducted in Cuba for his senior thesis.
Grear was awarded the Ricardo Piglia Best Senior Thesis Prize on Class Day 2018.
Azahara Palomeque, alumna of the Spanish and Portuguese Department, has recently published a new book of poems, R.I.P. (Rest in Plastic) (RiL Editores).

Flora Thomson-DeVeaux ’13 recently defended her dissertation titled "Toward a New Translation of Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas” at Brown University for her Ph.D. in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. In addition to her dissertation, Flora has continued to work as a professional translator as well as an independent researcher in Rio.
Mary Hui's piece titled "Voices: A Road Map" was recently featured in Princeton Alumni Weekly. Hui reflects on how the thesis has helped shape thinking in the post-Princeton life.

This spring Cara Zampino ’17 joined Asymptote, an international journal for literature in translation, to help develop teaching material on pieces published by the magazine. Asymptote’s latest educational guide features Zampino’s first lesson plan, “Race and Cultural Studies: De/Re/Constructing Race Through Performance,” designed for upper-level high school and college classrooms.
A photo by SPO alum Olivia Adechi ’16 titled I Know Their Name, Chímaira I, 2014 is currently on display as part of “HYPHEN”, an exhibit located in the upper and lower hyphens, or connecting corridors, of Chancellor Green. The photos by Princeton students and recent graduates will focus on the University’s diverse student population, their experiences at home and their lives at Princeton.
Joseph Tobin is among the recently named Schwarzman Scholars. The Schwarzman Scholarship covers the cost of graduate study and living toward a one-year master’s program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
