The Boquitas Pintadas Film Club will be screening Destello Bravío (Mighty Flash), the first feature film by Spanish director Ainhoa Rodríguez. Dealing with themes such as repressed feminine desire and set in what some describe as "la España vacía/vaciada" ("empty/emptied Spain"), the film has been described as a mixture of Buñuel, Godard, and David Lynch, with one critic even calling it an "Extremaduran Twin Peaks". The director herself has said in interviews that "the film speaks of dreams and repressed desires that remain hidden, yet possess a transforming, luminous force." Join us for a screening and informal discussion on Friday, October 7. After the film, we'll serve a light dinner and refreshments.
