Event Description

April 25, 2024, marks the 50th year since democracy was restored in Portugal after 41 years of dictatorship. The nearly bloodless coup led by the Movimento das Forças Armadas and known as the Revolução dos Cravos (Carnation Revolution), would both topple the dictatorship and bring about the end of the Portuguese colonial empire.

In recognition of this important anniversary, the POR program is holding a small exhibition showcasing the work of students in our courses. The creative works on display will feature the themes of dictatorship, revolution, democracy and postcolonialism. Please join us for Portuguese snacks and drinks to mark this momentous date and celebrate the work of our students.

(Please note: this event will immediately precede the special screening of Angolan director Ery Claver's new film "Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês" in EP 010.)
